Magazines

I have probably got far more magazines than books in my collection, so it is time to thin these out as well. Magazines generally sell for a low price, often a pound or two, and postage tends to be low also, so it can be worth buying one just for one article, the rest is a bonus! The ones I have listed are here:

The details with each listing give the main articles, to make it easier for you to find what you want. Make a note of this link, I have got a lot more to list so you might soon be able to find just what you are looking for.

Public Transport Collectables at Specialistauctions.com

Specialistauctions.com are advertising in the May issue of 'Buses' Magazine, which will be out some time in April, so keep a lookout for the advert:

I have some books and magazines listed and will be listing more to link in with the promotion. All of them will have the keyword 'Bus' in the title, so it should be easy to find them.

The Long Tail of Transport Books

I hope that the title has caught your attention, so now for an explanation. The idea of the 'long tail' was developed by economist Chris Anderson, and basically states that for areas of ecommerce such as books, cds, dvds, etc, as well as the few big blockbuster hits and bestsellers (the head), there is a vast number (literally millions) or long tail of titles that will each sell in very small numbers, but together form an important part of the overall market. A 'bricks and mortar' shop would never be able to physically stock enough to serve this demand, but an internet site, especially with a large number of sellers, can meet it.
To be realistic, http://www.specialistauctions.com/index.php would be unlikely to meet the demand right across the range in the short to medium term, but it is a niche site, and the opportunity is there to further develop existing niches. Transport books are a good choice, they are very much a niche and enough titles have been published over the years to give a true 'long tail' with a great choice for buyers. At present the category is small compared to some of the larger and more established sites, and sales are inevitably slower, but the lack of listing fees and the lower final fees gives the potential to list a large number of books and undercut the more expensive sites. A win-win for both buyers and sellers and it is also possible to transfer bulk listings from other databases, so here is the chance to really be the default choice.

Hello All

Hello and welcome fro me. I am a collector, no that's putting it too fine, I'm a hoarder and accumulator of transport books, magazines and ephemera. It all started many years ago in the age of steam, when with my friends, I would rush from school ( I lived in North London at the time) to the footpath overlooking the main line from King's Cross to the North, and ultimately Edinburgh to 'bag' the afternoon express to Scotland, hopefully in the charge of one of Sir Nigel Gresley's iconic streamlined class A4 Pacifics. The interest has continued and widened on and off over the years so now I have quite a collection, in fact far too much for the available space. I had been selling it on ebay, with some success, but the ever-increasing fees have now made that unviable, especially for the less valuable but still interesting items, so I have closed my shop and just list occassionally there now.
My new home is at Specialistauctions: http://www.specialistauctions.com/index.php where my shop can be found at: http://www.specialistauctions.com/shop.php?userid=107065
I have chosen this venue not just because the low fees enable me to offer a wide range from my collection, but also the unique nature of the site, with its emphasis on collectables of all types and moderated auctions, which give a greater reassurance to buyers, makes it ideal for the sorts of things that I am interested in. At present I only have about 50 items listed, but more will be steadily added as time permits, so do please keep looking to see what's new; I will also add links to anything that is a bit out of the ordinary.
Thanks for looking in.
